With being Childfree, I think back to how poorly my dad treated me, at times, and now this is a big reason why I don't want to put a child through similar unfortunate circumstances.
Could I do better than my dad in raising a child? Maybe, maybe not. But, I'm not going to put a child through my "experiment" in order to find out.
My dad had 5 children, I was the third (3rd) born. I don't want to end up like my dad, sure, some things he did right - but he also made some decisions that I didn't like, one of them being; having a big family.
I found, that being a part of a big family was stressful - not due to any one person, but it (big families) have a more complex dynamic structure to them. Brothers get in physical fights with each other, brothers and sisters harass each other, parents yell at their children (for various reasons). Kids can put their parents through strife, and vise versa.
Big families are not all about "love, affection, peace, kindness, etc." Families, especially large families, also come with some hatred/resentments - sure, they aren't always expressed, but how many men do you know, who resent their dads? Why? Because their dads, at times, put them through HELL! So to speak.
Fathers yell at their kids, some even beat or molest their children. So, is the family all about good and "flowery" things? No way!
Thanks dad for teaching me a valuable lesson...what I DON'T want to do with my life. I'm grateful to my dad for that!
